Today's Mix

asdf
  1. Yusef Lateef - Morning. Lateef never seizes to amaze me with his fusion of jazz and Middle Eastern sounds.
  2. Fuko & Sus Tesos. Salsa Na Ma. Hard, aggressive from Colombia. Sounds much like the salsa brava of Puerto Rico.
  3. Royksopp - In Space. Soothing downtempo. Very cinematic.
  4. Tonedeff - Homecoming King. I first met Tonedeff while participating in the Rhymearena battles back in the late 1990s. Tone was always a diverse cat with an open mind towards R&B, drum & bass, and anything else he could get into. "Homecoming King" was one of the tracks off of his old mp3.com page (back when mp3.com was cool).
  5. Michi Sarmiento y Sus Bravos. Hong Kong. Some more of that salsa brava colombiana. Quasi-cha cha cha.
  6. Sheila Jordan - Baltimore Oriole. Oh God. Sheila Jordan. Such a fine tipped voice. Trotting light cymbals, six foot bass, and Sheila's curvy voice.
  7. Luiz Bonfa & Norma Suely - Manha de Carnaval. A vinyl ripping of the classic bossa guitar track.
  8. Khaled Mouzanar - Zaghloul El Hamam. From the soundtrack of Caramel, a Lebanese film. Very detailed, intricate instrumental composition. The touches of the slightly picked strings and the Middle Eastern flute add the perfect touch. Sounds like someone Aphex Twin would throw drums over.
  9. Jorge Ben - Agora Ninguem Chora Mais. My boy Jorge! Black + group chorus + high pitched voice + swing + bossa = Jorge! Hells, yea baby. Chora mais! Wonderful chords.
  10. Stephane Pompougnac - Sous Le Soleil. A gay man who used to swing by my old workplace all the time hooked me up with this. Though he was kinda' freaky, I must say he had some good taste in tunes.
