Music Lover's Download Guide

I am an avid music fan and a collector of rare and out-of-print works. Thus I have became some what of an expert of getting a hold of music online. I usually use the following methods to get a hold of what I want:

  1. Soulseek; a sort of old school Napster program. Luckily Soulseek users have their music collection very organized. The only problem with Soulseek is the long queues (sometimes you have to leave your computer on for a few days before it starts downloading) but that can be fixed with a small donation of about $5 via paypal.
  2. Google: I simply good the name of the artist and album that I want along with the words "rapidshare", "megaupload", or "sendspace". Sometimes I will be sent to distant and lengthy forum posts, in which Firefox's speedy "find" option helps me facilitate. Adding the words "blogspot" to the search will show you blogs that frequently post similar music, just incase you feel like wandering beyond your comfort zone.
  3. Morpheus: I rarely use this anymore, but I used to whenever I needed to get ahold of a popular song that beatniks like Soulseek and Blogspot users normally wouldn't store. This program is little more than trouble, considering the fact that its loaded down with spyware and other Internet baddies.

If you are to use the second option than you will stumble across a number of obsticals related to the download service that the file is hosted on. If so, follow the following steps to avoid them:

Rapidshare - In order to download two files consecutively without having to wait an hour, after the first download is finished than reset your IP address. This can be done by going to your START menu, clicking RUN, typing CMD, and than IPCONFIG /RENEW. Most of the time this will work. Instructions can be found here.

Medaupload - In order to avoid the country download limit that appears every once and a while (almost all the time for Puerto Rico), download the FireFox "Megaupload SX 3.2" Extension here.

Sendspace - In order to avoid the country download limit go to hideu.net, make sure the Javascript option is activated, and enter your sendspace url in the search box.
